SNAP-8 is an octapeptide mimetic of the N-terminal domain of the SNAP-25 protein, an essential component of the SNARE complex that regulates the fusion of synaptic vesicles with the presynaptic membrane. In vitro studies (PMID 16641057) describe partial competition with endogenous SNAP-25, reducing SNARE complex formation and attenuating calcium-dependent neurotransmitter release. At the skin level, preclinical models report a transient reduction in facial muscle contractions (local myorelaxant effect) without systemic diffusion. No hormonal effect has been documented.
