What the literature describes

SNAP-8 is an octapeptide mimetic of the N-terminal domain of the SNAP-25 protein, an essential component of the SNARE complex that regulates the fusion of synaptic vesicles with the presynaptic membrane. The mechanism put forward for this mimetic is partial competition with endogenous SNAP-25, which would reduce SNARE complex formation and attenuate calcium-dependent neurotransmitter release; published work addresses fragments of SNAP-25 itself (PMID 10882724, 26098518), while the literature specific to SNAP-8 remains very limited. At the skin level, preclinical models report a transient reduction in facial muscle contractions (local myorelaxant effect) without systemic diffusion. No hormonal effect has been documented.
