What the literature describes

Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg) stabilized by the addition of the tripeptide Pro-Gly-Pro. Studies (PMID 31625062, PMID 26924987) describe modulation of hippocampal BDNF and NGF expression, as well as potentiation of GABAergic transmission without direct affinity for the GABA-A receptor (unlike benzodiazepines). At the hormonal level, the studies observe a moderate reduction in cortisol under acute stress conditions, modulation of serotonin and norepinephrine, and an increase in endogenous enkephalin. Anxiolytic effects without sedation and immunomodulatory effects (cytokine modulation, PMID 32621722) are documented in preclinical models and Russian clinical studies.
