Bacteriostatic water is sterile USP water supplemented with 0.9% benzyl alcohol, a bacteriostatic agent that inhibits the growth of most common microorganisms. This solvent is used in the laboratory for the reconstitution of lyophilized peptides and allows reconstituted solutions to be stored under refrigeration for up to 28 days depending on the compound.
